Add Kowalah to Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Codex or another AI tool, switch it on in your chat, and ask it your first question.
Kowalah works inside the AI tool you already use. You add it once as a connector, sign in, and then ask for it by name in any chat: “use Kowalah to…”.Every tool uses the same address:
https://mcp.kowalah.com/api/mcp
Sign in with your work email address. Your email domain decides which Kowalah organisation you join. If your company already works with Kowalah, a work address puts you straight into its organisation. A personal address gives you a new, empty organisation of your own.
On a personal Claude plan you can add Kowalah yourself. The Kowalah plugin is the easiest route: it brings the connector and Kowalah’s skills together.
1
Add the plugin
In Claude, go to Customize → Plugins → Discover, search for Kowalah, and click Add.
2
Connect it
Open the plugin, go to its Connectors tab, and add and connect Kowalah. Adding the plugin doesn’t sign you in; this step does.
3
Sign in
Sign in with your work email address. If you don’t have a Kowalah account yet, signing in creates one.
Prefer just the connector, without the plugin?
Go to Customize → Connectors, click + Add, then Add custom connector. Name it Kowalah, paste the address above, click Continue through the authentication settings, and click Add. Then click Connect and sign in.
On a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, your Claude workspace owner decides which plugins and connectors your organisation can use. Members can’t add the Kowalah connector themselves. Until your owner sets it up, Kowalah won’t appear in your Discover tab.
Your owner is usually whoever runs your company’s Claude account, often in IT. Send them this, and link them to this page:
Could you make Kowalah available in our Claude workspace? It's inAnthropic's plugin directory. In Organization settings:1. Plugins & skills → Inventory: find Kowalah (from Anthropic Directory) and set it to "Available to install".2. Connectors → Add → Custom → Web: add https://mcp.kowalah.com/api/mcp, named Kowalah. Both are needed: making the plugin available doesn't add its connector.Setup steps: https://docs.kowalah.com/get-started/connect-your-ai-tool
2
Add the plugin
Once it’s set up, go to Customize → Plugins → Discover, search for Kowalah, and click Add.
3
Connect and sign in
Open the plugin, go to its Connectors tab, and connect Kowalah. Sign in with your work email address.
If your owner adds the connector but not the plugin, you can still use Kowalah: go to Customize → Connectors, find Kowalah (it usually has a Custom label), and click Connect. You get Kowalah’s tools without its skills.
You set Kowalah up once, in Organization settings:
1
Check the directory is available
In Plugins & skills → Marketplaces, check that Anthropic Directory is listed.
2
Make the plugin available
In Plugins & skills → Inventory, search for Kowalah and set the copy from Anthropic Directory to Available to install (its menu → Default access).
3
Add the connector
In Connectors, click Add, hover over Custom, and select Web. Name it Kowalah, enter the address above, click Continue through the authentication settings, and click Add.Skip this and members can install the plugin, but every Kowalah request fails.
Enterprise: limiting Kowalah to some groups
On Enterprise, use the plugin’s Group access… to limit it to particular groups. Custom roles can set the connector to Blocked for everyone else. If your organisation once uploaded the Kowalah plugin as a zip, set that copy to Not available so members don’t see two.On Team plans, only Owners and Primary Owners can add connectors. On Enterprise, custom roles that include managing libraries can too.

The full guide for admins deploying the plugin to everyone
If you’ve added the Kowalah plugin in Claude, it syncs to Claude Code when you sign in with the same account. To install it from the command line instead:
Or add just the connector, available in all your projects:
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user kowalah https://mcp.kowalah.com/api/mcp
Then run /mcp inside Claude Code and follow the browser sign-in. /mcp shows connected when it’s working.
ChatGPT can use Kowalah’s tools, but not its skills, which are Claude-only. Everything in Your first question works through the tools alone.Which steps you follow depends on your ChatGPT plan:
Plus or Pro: add Kowalah as a custom app in ChatGPT’s settings, using the address above, then sign in with your work email address.
Business, Enterprise or Edu: your workspace admin controls which apps and connectors members can use. Ask them to add Kowalah with the address above, then connect it from your own settings.
OpenAI’s help centre has the current steps for your plan. For what Kowalah shows in ChatGPT, see Set up in ChatGPT.
In the Codex desktop app or IDE extension, open Settings → MCP servers (or the gear menu in the IDE), select Add server, choose Streamable HTTP, enter the address above, save, restart, and select Authenticate.
Kowalah works in any AI tool that supports remote MCP servers with sign-in (OAuth). Add a remote or Streamable HTTP server with the address above, then sign in with your work email address when your tool asks.Cursor: Kowalah has a Cursor plugin with the same skills and connector. Install it from the Cursor Marketplace, or ask a Cursor Teams admin to add https://github.com/kowalah-dev/kowalah-plugin as a team marketplace.
Adding Kowalah isn’t always enough. Some tools let you switch connectors on and off per chat, and a new chat may start with Kowalah off.In Claude, click + at the lower left of the chat box, then Connectors, and check Kowalah is switched on.
Ask for Kowalah by name (“use Kowalah to…”). Otherwise your AI tool may answer from its own knowledge without asking Kowalah at all.
If you signed up on your own, your organisation starts empty, so Kowalah has nothing to show you yet. The quickest way to change that is to give it something to work with:
Use Kowalah to set up my AI operating model, starting with what my business does.
Three other good first questions:
See what you already have
Use Kowalah to record the AI tools my team and I already use, and what we use each one for.
Find where AI could help
Use Kowalah to find where AI could save me the most time in my own job, and raise the best idea as an opportunity.
Sketch your organisation
Use Kowalah to sketch my organisation: the teams we have and what each one does.
If your company already works with Kowalah, start with an update instead:
What's waiting for me in Kowalah?
Building your model from nothing
How to fill an empty organisation from documents you already have, rather than from memory
Kowalah isn't in my Discover tab (Claude Team or Enterprise)
Your Claude owner hasn’t made the plugin available yet. Send them the message under If you’re a member in the Claude (Team or Enterprise) tab above.
The plugin is installed but every Kowalah request fails
The connector hasn’t been added, or you haven’t connected it. On Team or Enterprise, the owner has to add the connector as well as making the plugin available. Then open the plugin’s Connectors tab and connect.
My AI tool answers without using Kowalah
Check Kowalah is switched on for this chat (see Switch it on in your chat), and ask for it by name: “use Kowalah to…”.
Kowalah connected, but everything comes back empty
You’re probably in a new, empty organisation. If you signed up on your own, that’s expected: start with your first question. If your company already works with Kowalah, check you signed in with your work email address, not a personal one. Ask your Kowalah admin to invite you if your company’s domain isn’t recognised.
Sign-in fails
Use the same account you use at app.kowalah.com. If you sign in there with Google, use the same Google account here. Disconnecting and reconnecting Kowalah in your tool’s connector settings usually clears a stuck sign-in.
