Install the Kowalah Agent in Microsoft Teams to give your team an always-on AI expert directly in channels and chats.

Admin setup

A Teams administrator uploads the Kowalah app package to your organization’s Teams Admin Centre. This makes the app available to everyone in your organization.

Download the app package

Download the Kowalah Teams app package: kowalah-teams-app.zip

Upload to Teams Admin Centre

  1. Go to the Microsoft Teams Admin Centre
  2. Navigate to Teams apps > Manage apps
  3. Click Upload new app
  4. Select the kowalah-teams-app.zip file you downloaded
  5. Click Upload

Approve the app

Once uploaded, the app appears in your organization’s app catalogue. You may need to approve it depending on your organization’s app policies:
  • Go to Teams apps > Manage apps
  • Find Kowalah in the list
  • Ensure the status is Allowed

Confirm availability

The Kowalah app is now available to your organization. Team members can find it in the Built for your org section of the Teams app store.
The admin only needs to do this once. After the app is uploaded and approved, individual team members install it themselves from the Teams app store.

Individual user setup

Once the admin has uploaded the app, each user installs it and links their Kowalah account.

Find Kowalah in Teams

Open the Teams app store (click Apps in the sidebar) and look under Built for your org. Find and install Kowalah.

Mention @Kowalah

In any team channel or chat, type @Kowalah followed by a question or request.

Link your account

The first time you mention Kowalah, it will ask you to link your Teams identity to your Kowalah account. Follow the provided link to sign in. This is a one-time step.
If you don’t have a Kowalah account yet, one will be created automatically when you authenticate.

Start using it

Once linked, you’re set. Mention @Kowalah in any conversation or start a direct message with the bot.

Where it works

  • Team channels — visible to channel members
  • Group chats — visible to chat participants
  • Personal chat — private 1:1 conversation with the Agent (find Kowalah in your apps and start a direct message)
Use threads in team channels to keep longer conversations contained. The Agent tracks thread context for follow-up messages.

What to expect

  • First message: ~20 seconds while workspace context loads
  • Follow-ups: 3-5 seconds with context already available
  • Typing indicator: Shows while the Agent processes your request
