Install the Kowalah Agent in your Slack workspace to give your team an always-on AI expert directly in channels and threads.

Admin setup

A Slack workspace administrator installs the Kowalah app once for the whole workspace. It’s a single step.
1
Go to Integrations in Kowalah
2
Sign in to app.kowalah.com and go to Settings > Integrations. You’ll see Slack listed with an install button.
3
Click it, or use the button below as a shortcut:
4
Add to Slack
5
Review permissions and click Allow
6
Slack will show you the permissions the Kowalah app needs:
7
  • Read messages where it’s mentioned
  • Post replies in channels and threads
  • Read channel and user information (to identify users)
  • 8
Click Allow to install. The Integrations page in Kowalah will update to show Slack as Connected, and the bot is immediately available in your workspace.
The admin only needs to do this once. It doesn’t matter whether you click the button here or in the app — both hit the same connection and the status will show as Connected in your Kowalah settings either way.

    Individual user setup

Once the app is installed in the workspace, each user connects their Kowalah identity the first time they interact with it.
    1
    Mention @Kowalah
    2
In any channel or thread, type @Kowalah followed by a question or request.
    4
The first time you mention Kowalah, it will ask you to link your Slack identity to your Kowalah account. Follow the provided link to sign in and complete the connection. This is a one-time step.
    5
    Start using it
    6
Once linked, you’re set. Mention @Kowalah in any conversation to get help.

    Where it works

    The Kowalah Agent works in:
    • Public channels — anyone in the channel can see the interaction
    • Private channels — only channel members see it
    • Threads — replies stay in the thread, keeping channels clean
    • Direct messages — for private interactions with the Agent
Use threads for multi-step conversations. The Agent remembers thread context, so follow-up questions don’t need to repeat background information.

    What to expect

    • First message in a thread: The Agent takes around 20 seconds to respond as it loads your workspace context
    • Follow-up messages: Responses come in 3-5 seconds since the context is already loaded
    • Typing indicator: You’ll see “Kowalah is typing…” while it works on your request
